Department of Aquaculture, Institute of Environmental and Landscape Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Science of Szent István University (SZIE) conducts diverse research, including applied and basic research. Main directions of research are fish reproduction and fish genetics. These include induced spawning of fish, tests of hormone products for induced spawning, chromosome set manipulation techniques in fish, eco- and aquatic toxicology as well as immuno-genetic studies. The Department is equipped with research facilities for maintenance and manipulation of fish stocks as well as investigations in histology, physiology and molecular biology in fish. The Department has extensive experience in cooperating in or leading of large-scale projects aimed at the collaboration of SME-s and central budget institutions. It has successfully managed a national-level NKFP project in 2001-2004. The Department takes active part in the work and coordination of the Regional University Centre of Excellence in Environmental Industry.
