JSI is a research organisation for pure and applied research in natural sciences and technology. JSI complements the role of the universities and bridges the gap between science and its application. The Department of Environmental Sciences, involved in this project, has three main areas of work: the development and application of analytical methods for determining trace elements, their physical and chemical forms, natural and man-made radionuclides, and persistent organic contaminants in environmental and biological samples. The results obtained are used for implementing complex environmental studies (e.g.: environmental modelling; impact assessments). The Eco Laboratory, with its mobile unit, also plays an important role in the Department’s activities.
