Ákos Horváth, PhD

Ákos Horváth, PhD is a senior scientist and head of the Work Group for Research of the department. His area of research is primarily the cryopreservation of fish gametes and related investigations in reproductive biology. Sperm cryopreservation protocols were developed for more than 20 Hungarian and exotic fish species. In the field of reproductive biology his primarily interest is the activation mechanism of fish spermatozoa. Additionally, he has experience in the areas of chromosome preparation and chromosome set manipulation techniques (androgenesis and gynogenesis). Currently he is involved in several research projects in international cooperation: sperm cryopreservation of endangered salmonid species in the river Soča in Slovenia, cryopreservation of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) sperm in cooperation with colleagues from Singapore and investigations of the seminal plasma of percid fish with partners from Poland./p>
