Metka Filipič, PhD

Metka Filipič is the head of the GEN Department. Prior the te employment at NIB in 1996 as senor researcher, she had 9 years of experience as a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry and 9 years at the National Public Health Institute, where she was a leader of the Laboratory for Genotoxicity. Her main expertise is in the field of toxicology and genetic toxicology in particular the mechanisms of toxicity and genotoxicity of heavy metals, dietary carcinogens and natural toxins and the mechanisms of action of natural antimutagens. She is Associated Professor of Chemical Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana. In 2001 she was a fellow of IUCC and was a visiting researcher at Columbia University, New York. MF has experience in team and project management; has been the principal investigator of several national funded projects and international bilateral projects as well as a partner in several EU-funded projects. She was the member of the ad hoc expert group for the In Vitro Micronucleus Test at OECD. She is a member of scientific council for contained use of GMOs at the Minsitry for Environment and Spatial Planing of the RSlovenia, and the member of the scientific panel on Food Contaminats at the European Food Safety Administration (EFSA). Recently she has been appointed as an expert to FP7 Programme Committee for Environment.
